I think m65.net should also add more high quality tutorials on templating. This will not only allow m65 to demostrate how JTK is used but also educate people on how easy it is to make templates using JTK.

I think more people will be more comfortable purchasing JTK when they know how it's used, and based on the tutorials shown visually rather than relying on testimonials which can't prove anything.

Hi Media666,

As for eCommerce our Joomla Template kit can’t be all things the right tool for the right job.
I’m thinking of making a Template Kit for eCommerce solution in the future.

As for testimonials in my option there worth there weight in gold but your right about tutorials
as well there on there way I just have finish a few projects and there coming soon.
But what I have in store soon will make you a believer.

Thanks for you input.

Cheers,
Brian

Default Feature thought

Although I'd really like if this were part of the "standard" package also, I'll post it here and risk you making it a Pro-only feature.

One of the things that someone with multiple templates comes across is having to create DW sites for each new template in order to create base files and make the extension work properly.

I find that cumbersome, as I create a new template once to twice a week, and I have to remember to delete that new site when I am done with the basic setup of the template.

I would much prefer a way to just make the wizard work on the current selected folder if possible, or set the root folder before running the wizard via browse... whatever it takes to fit within the constraints of DW extension programming.

One other thing that bugs me is the base template file index.php has the M65 info at the top rather than the info from the profile. Again, I hope that this would be a fix for the "standard" version (but I plan to purchase Pro anyway because I can't stand not to have the "best" product so it probably won't affect me either way).

Hello tydust,

Thank you for your input into a feature.

It's not impossible to do but it’s not easy. The extension would have to track each template in the root
folder and then would have to know which template to update when changes are made.
Then update the files within the templates folder.

I would have to rewrite the extension wizards and workflow over from scratch
It also becomes a bit tricky for one new feature just added which opens a browser to your Joomla template install folder.

I’ll look into it for future versions but cant promise it will happen.
As the for PRO V.S Standard edition it’s not my style to short change every feature to up sale
to the Pro version. After I get done with this monster update on the Media 65 site, content and extension.

I will start to put more time into the UI Flow to rework the extension for both versions.
But these are tricky waters I have seen a lot of projects fail just on change with the flow.
No one likes to relearn how to use a tool that there use to using if it’s not some large improvement.

That being said thank you for your input.

Also here is a little trick which will help you have fewer sites in the site manager.
Dreamweaver has a feature in the site manager to import and export site details.

Once you’re done working with the template just export the
settings to a folder with your clients or projects name where you keep your
info and details for the project or client. Then when you need
to work on the template again just copy the template to your Joomla
install templates folder and import the site
Setup profile that Dreamweaver made for you.

How to access this feature

Main Menu >Sites>Manage Sites
Select the site to export
Click the “Export” button.

Save your profile name to your client or project folder.
Next delete the site mapped in site manager.
Your good to go.

If you need it again just import it.

Cheers,

Brian Diaz

Could the wizard itself ask you where the root folder is before using it? For example, if I were working in site with root folder c:\foo and I wanted to put the base files in c:\foo\bar, when I press the wizard could it say "Where is the folder for this template?" and you could have a box that defaults as c:\foo but with the little folder icon for "browse" next to it so you can choose a different destination, filling in c:\foo\bar and the files work from there?

Oh and any word about whether or not the index.php could be automatically filled in with the correct commented information at the top from our profile rather than copyright Brian Diaz?

Hi tydust,

Well tydust if it just the Base files thats easy. But there XML files to update and other issues as well.
Like I said I’ll look into it. If it happens its not going to happen till 2.5 rollout is out.

As I look into other possible Ideas I’ll see if this is something thats worth the time. Do to other features that I’m looking to add. You have to remember that our extension supports PC,MAC and older versions of DW.

As for the copyright info this is possible as well I’ll queue it up.
Stick with it for now in next two to three months you should see some very cool features.
I just have to build a system that’s supports docs, downloads, articles and Ecommerce with is in the
works as I write this post.

Cheers,
Brian

Default My thoughts

I would suggest that if you have everyones different os to worry about and and the dream weaver version and so on. Maybe it is time to set up a server to work everything from there so it would not require you to make a please everyone that would be done right on the server level when you login to secure area it would recognize your software and you would go on from there. I know your saying all these people use valuable web space. Hey I got a idea I have a 100 gigs I never use lets talk.

Question Joomla Template Kit

I think (with basic and pro) more tutorials, and maybe one showing how to take a monster template template and use it with the kit.

As for Pro version, possibly make it to where it will install Joomla to a clean server location with all the plugins you want installed by default. (read config from an existing site, dupe its configuration then install it on another server with a few changes) This may be way out of scope of what you want it to do, but would be nice.

The biggest thing would be tutorials.... Create a website that looks kick azz from scratch that would be easy to duplicate using a standard dreamweaver install.
